New In Theaters - July 27, 2012



THE WATCH
Starring: Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, Richard Ayoade,

The Plot: A group of friends who run a local neighborhood watch as a way to escape from their social commitments end up over their head when they are the only line of defense from alien invasion.

The Final Word: When comedic actor get together for a summer movie audiences usually try to make it a must see event, but with “The Watch,” it just looks flat. Putting together these four successful stars on paper probably seemed liked a good idea, but it has had very middling buzz around it. Even if the movie tops $20 million, it’s going to have a hard time in week two.

STEP UP REVOLUTION

The Plot: The daughter of a wealthy businessman teams up with up with the leader of a Miami flash mob group in hopes of stopping her father from destroying a historic neighborhood.

The Final Word: The franchise that helped make Channing Tatum a household name returns with its fourth installment with a new cast and new plot. Despite the absence of Tatum and his original co-star Jenna Dewan, the brand has managed to thrive in the six years since the original hit theaters. With “So You Think You Can Dance” veteran Kathryn McCormick and “High School Musical” star Ashley Tisdale now the face of the franchise, the film should once again put up solid numbers. Still not sure why the movies have to be now be in 3D though…

New In Theaters - July 20, 2012


THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

The Plot: Having purposely taken the fall for the actions of Gotham’s one-time “White Knight” Harvey “Two-Face” Dent, billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne has abandoned his crime fighting “Batman” persona for the good of the city. However, with Two-Face now deceased and The Joker imprisoned, another danger has emerged.

The Final Word: “Rises” picks up eight years after the events of “Dark Knight” and finds Batman’s alter-ego Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) a shell of what he used to be. The movie itself has been one of the most buzzed about of the summer and it is not hard to see why. Expect a huge opening weekend.

The Plot: Manny, Sid and Diego must fight their way back home after being separated from their friends and family following continental cataclysm

The Final Word: Worldwide the “Ice Age” films have combined to gross almost $2 billion at the box office. With an ever growing voice cast headed up by Ray Romano, Denis Leary and John Leguizamo, the movies have struck the right cord with audiences and continue to become more profitable with each new edition. “Drift” continues to expand the “Ice Age” world and per tradition is set to introduce a number of new characters voiced by top talent as Jennifer Lopez, Peter Dinklage and Nicki Minaj.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

The Plot: The famed comic-book webslinger gets another reboot and another dimension of filmmaking.

The Final Word: By this point, if you didn’t know this was going to the summer of superheroes, then you really have been living under a rock. Following the success of “The Avengers,” it seems very likely that both Spidey and Batman will keep the streak alive when they hit theaters this month.


KATY PERRY: PART OF ME

The Plot: A look behind the scenes at the life of pop star Katy Petty both on-stage and off.

The Final Word: Globally popular singer Katy Petty joins the “Glee” cast, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers as the latest performer to tape bring one of their live concerts to the big screen in 3D.

SAVAGES
Starring: Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson,

The Plot: Three friends and small time drug deals are forced to team with a dirty DEA agent after a ruthless cartel enters their town and attempts to take control of the market.

The Final Word: By this point you have to feel bad for Taylor Kitsch. He comes off a hugely successful and critically acclaimed run on the Emmy-winning series like “Friday Night Lights,” and then sees both of his major film projects crash and burn. Here though Kitsch stands a better chance as Hollywood legend Oliver Stone is guiding the ship and he’s backed by a cast that includes John Travolta and Salma Hayek among many other notable names.  While there are no guarantees in Hollywood, this one’s got some buzz behind it and could prove to be a much needed hit for everyone involved!
